Aztec Camera talk about doing a bit of rehearsing.

Excellent document from Smash Hits, August 30th 1984. Features several band shots and a run down on their time in Manchester recording the 'Knife' album. An article also in which Roddy Frame reckons that Aztec Camera "don't really fit in with anything" and that he "can't be bothered with the pop star life-style."
Smashing stuff indeed.

Return To Sender : Postcard Records

I've just been given access to some exciting documents by Paul Haig (Josef K). I'll be posting a few here over the next few days I imagine and would sincerely like to thank Paul for giving permission to do so. A good few of these documents are pretty rare; I don't recall ever seeing some of them before. First up we have a scan of a page of a Stuart Maconie article which dates back to the early 90s I imagine. There's no mention of which magazine it is but it might be from the NME, Select or Mojo. Includes the full Postcard Discography (released/unreleased) which I've reproduced in a larger format below.

Aztec Camera - Snap Decisions

http://cloverswine.tumblr.com/

As anyone following the blog will have noticed, I've been trying to set up a new layout for Sound of Young Scotland. Not working out as I want it as I'm having trouble merging the header colour with my background colour. Both are the same colour but for some reason when I add my homemade header it appears either lighter or darker than the background. Anyhow, hope to get this fixed sooner or later.
As for the time being, I'll be continuing to import most of my posts from my Sound of Young Scotland @Tumblr as well as rearranging older posts that have been 'messed up' with the new layout.
So, for the first 'new' post back here @Blogger here's a rather nice pic of a youthful Roddy Frame (Aztec Camera). No idea where this comes from as it appears with a set of several shots of Roddy. Shots which have been clipped from some magazine or other which could be either Sounds or Melody Maker or both. The original photograph is by ©Janette Beckman, who worked for both the magazines I mention, in the late 70s early 80s.

aztec camera : incredible demo tapes

There's an amazingly high amount of dross posted on Tumblr but sometimes you'll find something of interest. The person who posted it at Tumblr gave no indication as to what it was or who did this but after a couple of minutes on Google I found out that it was apparently done by this guy...  An interesting piece of work.

Aztec Camera - Just Like Gold

https://www.flickr.com/photos/japaneseforms/537054420/
Aztec Camera
Just Like Gold / We Could Send Letters
Postcard Records : Postcard 81-3 (1981)

Roddy Frame's excellent debut on Postcard. I really liked both of the singles that he released on the label and later picked up the High Land, Hard Rain album that he released on Rough Trade in 1982. Album which brought him a good bit of critical and some commercial success. My interest in the band sort of waned but I did buy the excellent Love album when it was issued in 1987. An album which, if I remember well, was very successful. Haven't heard or bought anything by Aztec Camera ever since.

The 'Just Like Gold' single features the famous 'kilties' artwork which was used for only three of the label's releases. Also included in each of these discs was... A Postcard with the lyrics to the song on the A-side.
